Yes, it’s true. Like LeBron James, Wale decided to join a Miami-based team. Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group has a new recruit. Haters revolt—or prepare for the hits.

Wale is chillin’. From his Westin hotel room in Florida, Mr. Folarin lounges in his bed and seems relaxed for the first time in months. After much deliberation, he’s finally decided to join forces with Rick Ross and his new imprint. He knows that the free-agent move will be heavily criticized by some, but he’s finally made his peace with it.

Adversity isn’t new to the Washington, D.C.–bred MC who overcame the public crucifixion when his Attention Deficit debut’s sales numbers fell way short of the fiery freshman’s great expectations. While some would’ve been embarrassed and taken their ball and gone home, ’Le regrouped with an effective grassroots campaign that was capped of by the release of the critically-acclaimed mixtape More About Nothing.

Everything you want, you gotta work hard for it. And now with a business cosign from one of hip-hop’s top artists, Mr. No Days Off is out to prove that his sophomore album will be met with the sweet taste of success.

RESPECT: Thanks for agreeing to talk. You don’t do every interview that’s offered to you anymore.

WALE: I’m still new, but when you’re brand-new, you’re kind of encouraged to do every interview. I’m not knocking anybody’s publication, but I needed that break to observe and understand.

So in many ways Attention Deficit ended one chapter of your career, right?

Absolutely. It was a weird time. The game’s changed. My album dropped in November of last year. Or was it 2009? The increase of viral marketing has shot up substantially. Niggas wasn’t dropping videos every week. So I learned a lot. The viral marketing from artists that aren’t independent—acting as independent. Like Ross doing a video for “Devil in a New Dress,” that wasn’t heard of back then. With my next album, the marketing that’s gonna come on top of the marketing dollars they give me, it’s going to be incredible. I know the game now.

I learned a lot, and certain things humbled me. We could take the Cudi situation, you could say it humbled me a little bit, but it showed me the nature of this beast. It showed me certain things can change in people. People’s feelings can change like that, and you can’t necessarily keep the same guidelines that you live in your real world. You can’t apply those in the music industry. It’s a different monster. For better or worse.

Why do you think Cudi’s criticism of you in Complex was such a big deal?

People wanted something to get behind at that point. People wanted an interesting competition, an interesting argument, a fight, I guess. It came out of nowhere, but I’m not in that dude’s shoes. I don’t know. From the outside looking in I can assume, but the nature of human beings is crazy.

Did you have a true friendship? Were you really close outside the music?

Absolutely. I can tell you this: The last three times we’ve seen each other, I felt something.

That’s before you did the “Number Won” song?

This is a thing I never talked about. “Number Won” ain’t a diss record. “Number Won” is me scratching my head, like, this is my man that used to hit me when I was living with my girl in SoHo, like “I’m downstairs, what you doing? Let’s go to Bape, let’s go to the studio.” I’d always be like, “All right, bet.” I remember we had a show—I don’t know the chronological order of these situations, but I believe this was the first time that I felt something. We had a show at [NYC’s] Governors Island, I think his album just came out, and I was with my dudes from back home. So I’m just like, “Oh, yeah, that’s my man Cudi.” He had a rack of his people around him. I’m on this one little shuttle thing, he’s on the next one. I’m knocking on the window, like, What’s up? He wasn’t waving. Knock-knock-knock. Wasn’t waving. Knock-knock-knock. Wasn’t waving. Okay, maybe he don’t hear me. And then he looked over, and he texts me: Sup, bro. That was kinda weird. And then somebody was like, “Young’n don’t really mess with you like that.” It was between me and him to do the MCing for MTV’s Music Video Awards in ’09. Cudi had a bigger record, Cudi’s notoriety was bigger than mine, [so he must have thought,] Why the fuck did they choose Wale? Everything kinda changed after that.

But if you look at it from outside at something like GQ—there’s you, there’s Cudi, there’s Drake. They’ve achieved bigger success than you. If anyone’s gonna be catching feelings about something, shouldn’t it be you?

Drake is one of the most talented artists out right now. They could say that Degrassi shit, whatever. He can rap, he can sing, he can compose, he can arrange. He’s not a pure, Brian McKnight type singer, but at this point, he could make a song that connects with Brian McKnight’s demo more than Brian McKnight could. That’s amazing to me. If the muthafucka was born in the ’70s, he’d be legendary. That’s what I think about Drake. Cudi as well. My shit is more traditional. I knew from jump it was going to take a while. Being next to Lil Wayne accelerates the process. Being next to Kanye accelerates the process. Being next to Mark Ronson doesn’t necessarily accelerate anything. It’s cool, it looks cool, but it didn’t accelerate nothing. I’m just the muthafuckin’ dark-skinned nigga with dreads from D.C. I knew it was gonna take a little bit longer.

How did dealing with the failure of Attention Deficit lead into doing the More About Nothing mixtape?

I wasn’t panicking. The shows never stopped. I was getting 60K to do colleges a week after selling 28,000. Money wasn’t stopping at all. I went and bought two cars. I got myself a house. I’m not mad financially. The competitor in me is like, What the fuck. That’s when we started the “No Days Off” series. I started touching the people more, I went to all the neighborhoods, I went to the mall, I did whatever I could do. And as far as the music went, the only frustrating thing I can say is that some of them songs I feel could’ve affected our culture a little more. I ain’t saying I wrote the next “Dear Mama,” but “Diary,” “90210” and “Shades”—those are records that I wish could’ve had more attention.

You still love those songs, and you still perform and push those songs.

It’s so many things that happen that are poetic justice. Certain things gave me a little bit of peace of mind. Niggas are starting to get introduced to my shit, which is cool. I wasn’t giving up. I said, “Look, I’m-a get this shit to, like, ’bout 140,000 sold.” That’s going to be my goal this time. Did what I had to do. And then that hunger, that desire to be on top, that desire for people to fall in love with my music was back like day one. So I said, “Let me do a sequel to the More About Nothing mixtape,” because that’s when my hunger was at an all-time high. The hunger that I had on this one was way more than the first time. Because it was almost like a fear of losing. My back was against the wall. I did crazy numbers the first day.

When you approach a mixtape like that, is it almost like making an album?

You gotta have a moment where everything clicks. I got 40 songs right now, but it ain’t clicked yet as far as the body of work that I’m trying to create this time. I got good songs that I’ll probably sell to some movies, or I’ll put on somebody else’s mixtape. But to have that moment when it clicks—and I’m so close now, because my inspiration is going faster and faster, the quality of music is going faster and faster—but I have to have that moment.

What’s the connection to Ross? How did that come about?

Me, Ross and Waka were like the homecoming kings for black colleges. We beat up the black college scene, man. Basically, he talked to me and was like, “Man, I think you’re so close, I think you’re real close.” So we met a couple times, talked. I’ve met with a lot of people, and I wish I was bold enough to say their names right now. I’ve been around genius muthafuckas, but Ross, that dude is a special nigga. I mean, to know what he’s overcome. You talk about back against the wall.

Character assassination.

Character assassination to the maximum. What’d he come back with? Hit record after hit record, and arguably the best record of 2010. I know the Ross that niggas don’t know. He took it to a whole other level as far as overcoming shit and just being focused. Sometimes he just be like, “Fuck those donkeys. ’Cause when you start making hit records, watch how everybody switch up.” And my affiliation with Ross, it’s almost like a joint venture; it’s not like I’m here to be a sidekick boy by any means. I’m my own brand. He respects that and he understands that.

By the time we read this, on March 1, your deal with his Maybach Music Group label might be official.

I’m signing tomorrow morning. Def Jam, J Records and Jive was like, “We’ll sign you without it.” But there’s no way I could put my faith in people that don’t understand black culture. I’m gonna give ’em a record talking about black people’s story, and they’re gonna tell me if it’s good enough or not? Nah. If I have a conversation with Ross and say, “I believe in this right here,” he’ll make them believe it, and we can put it out. He absolutely knows what he’s doing, man. Every city he go in, he’s touching the streets—like, “Who are the niggas that’s poppin’? I’m gonna show them love. These niggas are gonna pick me up from the airport, we’re gonna break bread together”—who does that?

Another artist who you work with and catches a lot of heat is Waka Flocka.

Fuck hating on Waka Flocka. He has three big, monster radio records. You’re trying to tell me that’s not hip-hop? You’re connecting with all of these people over hard beats—you’re tryin’ to tell me that’s not hip-hop? So—not to say that they’re the same artists at all—but that means Ol’ Dirty Bastard wasn’t hip-hop, right? You’re telling me Onyx wasn’t hip-hop? Onyx in, what, ’95—very similar to Waka in 2010.

Waka obviously ended up being a great connection for you.

That’s a good dude, dawg. And yeah, I’m the same Wale who did “Dig Dug (Shake It).” That’s me too. So I can’t say, “Look, Ma, no hands”? That hit was the big bang theory. That song had three niggas with three separate fan bases, all together with a giant hook. You couldn’t deny it.

Back to Ross. When you first started recording together, was the music chemistry there quicker than you thought?

Oh, man, I wrote my verse to “Pandemonium” extremely fast. It’s a vibe, man, when I’m with Meek and Ross. It’s something in the air. Like people call me the deep-thinking, poetry guy or whatever, but I truly believe that when artists are together—like, you see Cudi and Kanye—the music evolves. It’s something that happens when people are in the room with each other. I haven’t had that feeling since I was rapping with my friends in college at Virginia State.

I think what most people are concerned with is how the association with Ross now changes the sound of Wale’s music. Am I just gonna hear Wale over these Southern beats?

Versatility. Like, I just did a song with Rare Essence. I got some shit from Statik Selektah that’s crazy. I’m influenced by a lot of different shit. I’m influenced by Southern hip-hop—I’m from D.C.! We grew up on that fuckin’ UGK, Scarface, Cash Money. I had those songs right next to my Reasonable Doubt CD. So that’s always been my influence. All genres. I did the Justice Euro shit. I just like music. People need to stop trying to put shit in a box. Not every rapper can be put in a box.

Put it this way: Ross is gonna help me accentuate what I was doing already. He’s gonna make those calls to producers that tried to give me the B-folder beats. Now I’m-a get the real A-folder beats. That’s what we’re here for. Everything’s gonna be big.

Melo to the Lakers?

Could the Los Angeles Lakers and their risk-taking owner Dr. Jerry Buss be planning the boldest secret move of all: trading for Carmelo Anthony? And, does the latest trade of Sasha Vujacic for Joe Smith open the door to an Andrew Bynum-for-'Melo move?

All answers point to a resounding yes. This is the hush-hush story of the league. And, Laker management wants it that way.

Or, could this all simply be fairy tale rumors? Sure, we can’t deny that. But, there is actually meat to this story.

Picking up Joe Smith meant the Lakers accomplished three things that could lead to this bold trade:

-Freed up the $5.4 million salary paid to Sasha.

-Qualified for a $5 million free exception on any trade difference. This means that the Lakers can play this “get out of jail card” on a trade to make the numbers work.

-Smith is another big off the bench.

Joe Smith adds another big to the Lakers’ bench and makes the case that Andrew Bynum is now tradeable. The real reason is that the Lakers will ride out the Kobe Bryant era with the foot fully pressed to the metal, with no regard to the future.

I used to make the case that Andrew Bynum was the Lakers’ future.

The idea went like this. After Kobe and Pau Gasol are done racking up rings, Andrew Bynum would then take over as the franchise player. And, with Kobe, Pau, Lamar Odom and Co.’s salaries off the books at that time, the Lakers would have a money war chest to sign new free agents.

This plan was all predicated on Drew being the center for the next 10 years. But now, there are serious doubts to that scenario, including will he ever be 100 percent healthy or play a full season, and it opens the door to this move. The trade last week of Sasha Vujacic for Joe Smith makes it more plausible.

Now, could the Lakers flush the Andrew Bynum plan on the chance to get 'Melo?

Absolutely, yes. Carmelo is only 26 years old. Yes, still that young. Amazing.

You team him now with Kobe and Pau. He’ll carry the load as Kobe winds down his career (not happening soon, sorry!!). So, the Lakers would be loaded for the next five-plus years.

And, what LA loses in height with Drew leaving, they gain with 'Melo. He’s still a forward with size. And, 'Melo would give the Lakers legitimately three players on the floor that could demand double teams, in Kobe, Pau and 'Melo. How do opposing teams defend that?

With Joe Smith, the Lakers would also have height to still deal with any of the teams with real length like the Boston Celtics (their window is closing with the Big Three really getting up in age), the Orlando Magic (who knows if they will ever gel or get a consistent lineup), and the Dallas Mavericks (still Texas’ best team. Sorry, Spurs fans.)

The Lakers not only still have Pau and Lamar, who can easily start, but add Joe Smith and Theo Ratliff coming off the bench. This is a league of running and gunning teams and by adding 'Melo to the mix, the Lakers could pick up their tempo as well. But they don't need to.

Do the numbers work? If you use Drew’s salary, the exemption and maybe a Luke Walton or Ron Artest (Matt Barnes has taken away some of his minutes already this year), it’s much closer than you realize.

This is not fantasy GM going here. While everyone is talking about New York or New Jersey or how 'Melo and Chris Paul are going to hook up, the Lakers are sitting in the wings.

Here's one last thing that is nearly a guarantee: Denver will trade 'Melo this year. Period. If they don’t, they get nothing. And, 'Melo must approve any trade.

Lastly, don’t underestimate the fact that Kobe and 'Melo are very close, with 'Melo being literally the only person Kobe hung out with on the 2008 Olympic team.

No, the time has come. The Lakers will pull the rip cord on Andrew Bynum as the center for the future and Dr. Buss will roll the dice again and come up lucky 7’s.

This is the secret scenario that will blow everyone away. And, it actually has merit.

Laker Carmelo Anthony has a ring to it. Don’t you think? Many rings, actually.

Jay-Z: The Devil or Diversion - Hip-Hop's Not So Secret Society

Over the past year, the hottest topic in the hip-hop world has been whether artists such as Jay-Z, Kanye West and others are part of some diabolical secret society. From street corners to college campuses, people are losing sleep over the question: "Is Jay-Z part of the Illuminati?" The issue has reached such a level that Jay Z has responded to the accusations on collaborations with Rick Ross and Usher, as well as radio interviews. To add to the controversy, MC Hammer, reportedly has jumped on the bandwagon inferring that Jay-Z is a devil worshiper.

While some of the discussions have been thought provoking, many have done nothing but subject people to the same "spookism" about a devil with a pitch fork and a red suit that they get in many churches. Much of the "spookism" that is being used in regards to the Illuminati is just a mask to divert attention from the real issue, global white supremacy.

The Illuminati was formed May 1, 1776, by Adam Weishaupt with the purpose of organizing a secret society of "enlightened white men" to rule the planet (reference: Wikipedia). However, it must be noted that -- according to the book Illuminati 666 compiled by William Sutton -- Weishaupt said "regarding the order, let it never appear in any place in its own name, but always covered by another name and another occupation." So when an interviewer asks a rapper, if he is a part of the Illuminati, the person is really creating a smoke screen to hide the real issue.

What should be questioned is why hip-hop industry insiders from J. Prince, Ice Cube to 50 Cent have felt compelled to address the issue. If the accusations of something fishy in hip-hop did not have, at least a grain of truth, the whole controversy would have been easily dismissed and not dignified with an answer.

There is a term called "limited hangout", which is defined as "the release of previously hidden information to prevent a greater exposure of more important details." This is the deception that is transpiring with the hip-hop secret society controversy.

It is often said that if you don't ask the right question, you cannot get the right answer. The question that should be posed to Jay-Z is not whether he is a member of the Illuminati, but "What does he know about the Illuminati?" Because if he claims that he doesn't know anything about the order, than he can not possibly know if he is playing a role in their agenda, can he? Also, the major question should not be whether a rapper is part of a secret society, but what is his relationship with the 10% of the population who control 90% of the wealth and how does this affect "the hood?"

The discussion of the role that covert white supremacist organizations have played in the oppression of non-white people of the planet has been discussed by researchers such as Steve Cokely, for over 20 years. However, the issue has been rarely viewed in a hip-hop context, thusly adding to the confusion, as people have either been unwilling or unable to connect the dots.

We must start by studying the various covert plots to oppress non-white people that was taking place in the United States during the mid-19th century by secret organizations such as the "Know Nothing Society" and the "Supreme Order of the Star Spangled Banner", which included such members as Albert Pike who, according to Michael Newton's book on the Ku Klux Klan, has been "named by some historians, as the author of the Klan's original prescript."

The same agenda was also being carried out across the Atlantic by European white supremacists, such as Cecil Rhodes who founded the Round Table Group that espoused the doctrine of Anglo Saxon world domination, including the colonization of Africa. So, perhaps, instead of looking at rappers, we need to be looking at Rhode Scholars?

Although many of the societies have been based on racism, the motivation has also been economic, as these organizations follow the proverb that "a fool and his money are soon parted." If you keep the masses ignorant, they can be easily exploited.

Herein, lies the role of hip-hop.

While commercial rappers like Jay-Z may not be card carrying members of a secret society, it is not debatable that many support global white supremacy by way of "racial shadow-ism," which Neely Fuller defines as "when victims of racism are directly or indirectly, 'assigned' bribed, coerced and or like wise influenced by white supremacists to speak or act to do harm to other victims of racism." He says that the reason for this is to cause us to believe that the person acting in a "shadow" capacity is in control, when in actuality, he is a mere flunky for the global elite.

Also, while most people reference a Tupac video clip as evidence that he exposed the Illuminati, if one really listens to the clip, Shakur actually denied its existence, saying that the only thing that matters was getting money, regardless from whence it came.

There is an old saying that if you want to hide something from a black man, put it in a book. So the information about secret societies that has hip-hop heads buggin' is not really secret, but can be found in their local libraries. But when you have successfully dumbed down a society, you do not have to really hide the truth, as it can be "hidden in plain sight."

So if the power of secret societies is keeping the masses dumb, what role does hip-hop play in making ignorance bliss? So, I am less concerned about Jay-Z being on the cover of Forbes magazine than I am about the "conspiracy" of rappers that are considered too dumb to be in a secret society, such as Gucci Mane and Wacka Flocka Flame carrying out a mission to dumb down black children.

Our greatest weapon against oppression is knowledge of the TRUTH. Instead of engaging in ghetto gossip and fairy tales, we must encourage our people to read. We cannot rely on hip-hop websites and Youtube for our information, but must get our information the old fashioned way ... from a book.

I challenge those who are currently speaking authoritatively about hip-hop and secret societies to read None Dare Call it Conspiracy by Gary Allen, The Unseen Hand by Ralph Epperson, or Circle of Intrigue by Tex Marrs, and then see if their perspective remains the same.

We must understand that for those who do not study, everything is a secret. However, for those who diligently seek truth, as Yeshua taught: "there is nothing that is hidden that shall not be revealed."

"Life" x Break to Build

Just went thru my photobucket from beginning to end, dang...that's like 3-4 years worth of [stuff]. Not just photography but random stuff that I thought was hilarious. It just shows me how time flies. There is a lot of photography in there as well, just about a piece of EVERY photoshoot I've ever done. I've worked with so many different personalities its crazy...I don't think no one looks at it like that. I don't count the amount of people I've worked with but the amount of personalities, and know that one individual is not limited to just one personality. With every character I come across, I look at God's work as art...well, because it is art. Its like we're characters in one big movie, that has its commercials, short films, tv series, sequels and more...I just know that I'm destined to stand out in my role. No matter if you're a superstar or a seat-filler, you still have a role to play in this movie called "Life" (not to be confused with the comedy with Eddie Murphy & Martin Lawrence haha).

But on the no bull, working with these many different personalities has allowed me to alter myself as well as my artwork in many different positive ways to present to the public. I never wanna be someone thats boring. So the ones that don't know me say I'm the quiet guy, and try to figure me out...and the ones that do know me say I got a smart mouth, and still in a sense can't completely figure me out. People like to copy, so why not give them something with substance & content to copy off of? So I live my life creatively. Do something just enough to get the attention of life's audience, and then put my own twist to it. "Flyer than the rest of em...ha"

The lastest character I've worked with was Ms. Carson in the previous Hollagraphy Shoot. Much like myself, she keeps a straight face in photos but in person does the total opposite. Be sure to check that shoot out. It started raining during the shoot, but she's a soldier, so no rain was gonna stop her party lol. Great chemistry working together during the session, so expect to see more work from the both of us. [Add me to facebook to view the entire shoot]

On to other things...
Version 6: Break to Build is currently in the works. Hopefully, I'll be winding to the final stages of it soon, its a lot of hard work. I've been working on it day & night so NO that does not mean its gonna take another year to drop lol. In the beginning stages of the site I was in a constant battle with self on if the design of the site should be extravagant or simple. Like Version 5: A Perfect Fifth, I went with the simple look; I want the work to speak for itself. The site will have new work (also some old work..design, clothing, photography, and illustration), videos, and I'm also bringing back the featured section of the site. The feature section will consist mainly of featured artists, some of which I already have listed from V3, and many new ones. This will allow me to showcase others of my choice that are from the DMV and other areas as well.

Eminem x DJ Booth "Recovery" Review

Recovery is the worst album of Eminem’s career. Recovery is the best album of Eminem’s career. It’s both. That ambiguity may sound like a cop out, and truth be told maybe it is, but in all honesty, I can’t remember being as confused about an album as I am about Recovery. Thanks to a newfound sobriety, it features the most mentally stable and mature Eminem we’ve ever heard, but, as music fans, do we really want a stable and mature Eminem? We certainly didn’t want a happily married and domesticated Usher. Recovery is also Eminem’s least purely “hip-hop” album, and while I genuinely applaud his willingness to defy the expected, I tend to like my Eminem as rawly hip-hop as possible. If I retreated to a secluded cabin and did nothing but listen to Recovery for a month I may be able to better weigh its value, but for now, I have far more questions than answers.

In my review of Eminem’s last album, the hyperbolically dark Relapse, I wrote that it was a cathartic work for Em, that he needed to get all that pain out of his system in order to get back to making great music. God I love when I’m right. Whatever its strengths and weaknesses, Recovery is easily the most courageous album of Eminem’s career as he stiff arms guest rappers (with one notable exception), delivers his first skit-free album and sonically ventures into everything from hard rock to quasi-ballads. More than a decade after the Slim Shady LP we’ve heard a lot from Eminem, but we’ve never heard anything like this.

When Recovery is good, oh f**k is it good. The album’s lead single Not Afraid is one of the least likely number one hits in music industry, not because it doesn’t sound dope, but because a fearlessly honest track about maintaining sobriety isn’t exactly your usual formula for chart success. It’s a testament to the strength of Eminem’s delivery that he’s transformed Not Afraid into a smash, it’s an absolutely gripping track, and it’s far from the only one on Recovery. The similarly themed Going Through Changes, which fittingly utilizes an Ozzy Osbourne sample, finds Em diving headfirst into a long list of his weaknesses, and the pounding Almost Famous provides an answer to anyone wondering if Em can still come as lyrically vicious as ever. Eminem pours his heart into Recovery, and it’s fascinating to listen to it beat.

While Eminem spends much of Recovery proving that he’s once again a serious contender for the best rapper alive title, unfortunately the album’s production and hooks, particularly when Eminem sings them, fall short. And before you start telling me, as some already have, that the hook and the beat “don’t matter,” that they’re “only a small part of the song,” let me offer this analogy: you go to Subway and they make you a delicious looking ham BLT. But then, instead of mayonnaise, they spread some poo on the bread. Are you eating that BLT, even though the poo spread’s only a “small part” of the overall sandwich? I thought not. Unfortunately, Eminem serves up more than a couple poo sandwiches on Recovery, even if he does so with the best of intentions, starting with No Love. It’s an absolute shame to waste incredible verses from Em and Lil Wayne on a beat that sounds like a joke at worst, and calls too much attention to itself at the least. Even more disappointing is the arena rock Cinderella Man, which finds producer Script Sheperd doing a poor man’s Timbaland impression, and Eminem’s vocals on You’re Never Over are so bad it sounds like he’s doing a parody of a cheesy r&b singer. And just like that, what could have been a classic track, becomes an average track.

As long as we’re on the topic, while longtime fans were undoubtedly nervous to see pop-rock singer Pink make an appearance on Won’t Back Down, the result is one of the album’s best tracks, and while the Rihanna-assisted Love the Way You Lie doesn’t work as well (listening to Em on a Ne-Yo-esque cut is more than a little strange), its nowhere near as bad as some might fear. But, although I’ll argue until the end that these things truly matter, I don’t want to get too caught up on the album’s specifics. Both personally and professionally Eminem couldn’t keep making the same music he did when he was 20, and while Recovery falters, it’s dope to hear Eminem moving in a new, and potentially even better, direction. Recovery feels like the album before a truly great album, a warm-up to a classic, and I can’t wait to hear what he’s cooking up next. Damn, looks like I have a pretty clear opinion on Recovery after all.

Welcome back to blogging, myself that is. I've been trying to get back in the mindframe I was once in months ago. I'm getting there...slowly. It feels good though, getting a lot of work done lately, feels weird when I'm not doing some kinda work. Everything I touch I've been trying to put my all into it. I guess when I'm progressing and doing something productive it doesn't allow life's everyday obstacles bother me, so I need that right about now lol. Just finished the "Go" cd cover yesterday, also had a photoshoot with Big V & Pages in Hopkinsville, Kentucky yesterday afternoon. The shoot went well, they always show me a lot of love out there. Lately, I've been teaming up with the staff of Twenty4Seven Magazine...so I guess you can say I'm officially a part of the team. I was involved in the first issue slightly. I shot the front cover (Tyrone's cover), and the spread picture of Tyrone's article in Naptown. There is also a Holla Fashions ad that can be found in there too. But with the second issue, I was involved with a lot of the design for several spreads, as well as a few design decisions for the covers. You will also be able to find a HF ad in this issue as well. So big shout out to Twenty4Seven Magazine! We're gonna take it straight to the top!

If you don't know, Twenty4Seven Magazine is based out of indianapolis, but will be available internationally! As far as local places in Clarksville, TN...They will be available in different locations around the city (i.e. Journeys (mall), Barbershops, What Women Want and more).

First and foremost, Chamillionaire (My 2nd fav rapper), once again has put out another hit. This track is off the chain...its called "Patron" featuring Bobby V. Other than that, over the month I've been working hard as usual, trying to make a name for myself. I've got the opportunity to do the photography at more parties, including ones featuring artists Webbie & Yung LA. Got the chance to meet both of them and speak a lil bit with them, both 2 cool, laid back dudes.

Thanksgiving. Welcome back to the DMV for me. Spent time with the fam, picked up a lot of new clothes, but the vacation wouldn't be a vacation without putting in a lil "werque". Met up with 2 DMV rappers...Lyriciss & Mag Dollars, we met up at the Morgan Boulevard Metro Station to do a Hollagraphy Photoshoot. It was cold outside but we got it in, just a lil something for a future step for unity/working together for the DMV. So shouts to & Lyriciss & Mag for that joint.

The homie Tyrone with Brightwood Entertainment has began the release of their magazine (Twenty4Seven Magazine), and is sending out copies to major cities around the country. Not to mention that the HF ad for Holla Fashions, Hollagraphy, and Holla Creative is in the first issue. So thats a real good look.

Tyrone & PrincessKenya got the chance to record the HF Song for future promotion & commercial usage. The track came out hot! Real creative work, I put it in their hands and let them do it however they wanted since they know me better than most. This is one track that I'm not leaking, we're gonna do this the right way. 2010 is gonna be a great year and all I know is that something gotta pop off next year...I've been patience and I've put it well more than enough work, time to turn it up a lot. But before 2010 is here, 2009 is still not over...So this week I will be releasing the newer women's HF tees in the store What Women Want: Clothing & Accessories (Clarksville, TN ONLY). Each tee is one of a kind, so that means supplies are limited.

Got in a promo photoshoot with Ms.Smith for the HF tee release promotion. It was a quick shoot, wasn't as long as usual, but it did the job...came out real nice. Also got in a Hollagraphy Shoot with Ink Camp Tattoo Studio a couple of days after...Shout out to my tat2 artist J.Rose & Ink Camp.

I was planning on releasing the tees tomorrow (monday) but I might end up pushing it back a few days because I want to get in a shoot with 2 other models I have interest in. So we'll see how that goes, classic work of course ;). Oh yea, even tho myspace is kinda wack now...check out the new layout!

I guess I'm blogging finally because I finally got all my work out the way...not used to the free time on my hands, its kinda boring. Christmas is coming up and I'm expecting it to be real boring. Not expecting gifts but I'm old enough not to worry about that. Other than that I'm getting V6 together...in my head of course, stay tuned...more creativity for the world to experience later.

Lyriciss x Mag Dollars x Holla = Do it For DMV

When I was home in the DMV for the holidays I got the chance to do a shoot with 2 DMV music artists...Lyriciss Flowz and Magnum Dollars. Originally, the shoot was planned to be for more than just the 2 DMV but to include as many of the DMV artists, producers and people putting on for the area in general...just something for DMV unity. Something just to have fun and bring us all together, especially since I don't get the chance to go home much. I hit up different people on facebook and posted several Tweets on twitter about it 2 months in advance. The only ones who came thru was these 2 but no love lost...we made it happen. Also shout out to Southeast Slim because he did let me know that he wouldn't be able to make it. But there is always next time. The shoot came out real good. We didn't have much time especially due to the holidays. It was cold as hell outside lol but we still had fun while doing it.

Couldn't sleep, creativity running through my veins, and as always...music in my ears for inspiration. Was listening to the Wale's "The Artistic Integrity" on the Mixtape About Nothing and decided to put together something raw while taking a break from work for clients. Another night of not sleeping, lol but thats normal for me. "5am is the new 5pm!"

Wale: Attention Deficit

Wonderful day for the DMV. The "Attention Deficit" album dropped today, and I see a lot of people from the area supporting it. Thats what we gotta do, is support our artists, and that starts with Wale. After that...comes all the other DMV artists in line. I was gonna get 2 copies, I ended up buying the last copy in the store. I've been listening to it, haven't heard the entire album yet but so far its dope....oh yea and Jasmine Sullivan murdered the track she on. I was surprised Nike Boots didn't make the album but its still solid. So make sure yall check it out! BUY THE ALBUM! This is the first album that I have actually BOUGHT in years, and it was worth every penny. DMV is showing progression, we need that!

Also copped Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 today..damn its like Christmas, lol this game is TOO damn hot!! I think I been playing too much, taking a break cuz I started to get dizzy. If you got xbox live then add me to ur friends list... "Holla 301"

Finished the shoot with Summer Berry yesterday, the shoot came out great. It was actually done in someone's front yard, and yes...of course I asked permission to use their front yard. It was the perfect setting, it was very windy outside but we were able to complete the shoot before the storm came.

Practice Makes Perfect

Finally got the chance to test out the lighting and backdrops I ordered 2-3weeks ago. Took me about an hour to get it right. I'm still not 100% satisfied but practice makes perfect. Just trying to broaden my horizons and add to the arsenal. I might end up buying 2 more umbrella lights or some florescent lights from Lowe's. Right now, I'm putting my ideas together and seeing how I wanna go about doing everything. Putting together projects for myself, my own assignments to add to my portfolio while I'm still in search for a design job.

Did a couple of practice shots with Summer Berry (Miss Black Clarksville) to test the lighting. It was a fun lil practice shoot, gotta think of some ideas for the real one though. And congrats to her for getting runner-up in Miss Black Tennessee Pageant. Check out the photos and let me know what you think.
